OBM Summary Minutes from Thurs 18 May 2023 – Strutts Centre
Attending: Roger Moors, Carol Brewer, Chris Toner, Melanie Parker, Simon Hudson, Phoebe McMillan, Ron Common, Antoinette Smith
Apologies: David Higley
RM extended a warm welcome to Ron Common and Antoinette Smith.
Minutes of 12 th April were agreed.
Role of OBM remains unaltered. The DCC consultation process involving OBM is ongoing, but temporary, so it will reach a conclusion point. OBM will be involved in promoting the online public consultation toward the end of summer and thereafter, will continue as a vehicle for communication and public representation.
OBM will not engage in any specific lobbying campaign, but will encourage feedback and involvement across the wider community, who may have specific interests, to have their say and address the issues important to them.
It was felt that it was important to get the message out that OBM data gathered is seen as valid, useful and influential to the current process, with data obtained from our 6 Big Questions directly contributing to the consultation results, rather than purely feedback.
It was agreed that we should review the question and answer options on the website again.
Stats; 565 subscribers of which 212 are Members. 582 fb followers. 206 Instagram followers
It was agreed that we should aim for 1500 signed up supporters by the end of summer.
Social Media; Ron gave examples of success, including identifying and targeting influencer groups on fb to
increase exposure, citing Lets Go Peak District and Derbyshire and Proud. Look at sectors such as tourism/heritage/photography etc. and identify major groups with access to large numbers of followers.
Fb should be used regularly with stories/photos/articles of interest to boost followers
It was agreed that we would create a role description and initially talk to DH re contacts, then put a call out to members for two people to assist SH, CB, CT currently actively posting. Collectively this was estimated to be 2-3 hrs per week. Content can be moderated. Derby Uni could also be an option RM thanked Ron who offered to continue to actively network on behalf of OBM.
Linked-In; In order to widen exposure to business supporters, Antoinette Smith will build a profile for OBM to complement existing social media platforms.
Local business could also be targeted via Love Belper – MP to liase with AS as an affiliated supporter with mentions on website and in newsletter. Window sticker to be costed by PM with Go Apparel
Finance – Currently £151.20 bank account & 115 cash from donations & tea sales. Foundation Derbyshire funds applied for £1200 could take up to 8 weeks. RM has contacted DCC via Adam Lathbury for grant from DCC Ron suggested looking The Pilgrim Trust for funds.
Purchases; PM reimbursed for Mailchimp fees. TriBoard display on hold for call out to community to help,Public Liabilty stall holder status to be actioned by SH (£65)
DCC Consultation feedback; Generally positive and in favour od GG method and engagement. Concern raised at poor uptake of members to be involved and initial lack of importance given re eco/hydro aspect and response to suggestion re utilisation for public services as an option.
