OBM Summary Minutes from Thurs 12th Jan 2023 – Strutts Centre

Apologies; Ian Hill, Ron Common, David Higley

Attending: Roger Moors,Carol Brewer, Chris Toner, Melanie Parker, Phoebe McMillan, Richard Keighley, Peter Bowley (7 attending)

  • Minutes from previous meeting were agreed.
  • The group extended a warm welcome to Pete Bowley who was able to share his extensive experience regarding FB usage (Corfu Tourist). Pete explained the benefits of establishing a FB page in order to promote OBM and to share with other FB groups and users to grow membership.

It was agreed that OBM accept Pete’s kind offer to set up an OBM FB page and that OBM then maintain it thereafter. The page name will be Our Belper Mills. The usergroup will be @Save Our Belper Mills. PM to send Pete OBM logo. Pete has asked everyone to send him a quick message (Hi I’m….. with OBM),  (search Peter Bowley on FB – look for picture of Steve McQueen!), so he can add you to the new FB page.

Pete will set up an automatic reply for any messages, research other FB groups with a common interest or link and start to share the new page, in advance of February meeting.

MP has a contact, Paul Williams, who was unable to attend tonight’s meeting, who may be able to undertake the maintenance of the FB page. MP to invite Paul to attend in February to progress further. If necessary, we can still put a future general call out to the membership to see if anyone has relevant experience and skills and would like to be involved.

  • Finance – MP has been receiving invoices from Strutts for room hire. No action needed as these have been paid up to date and recorded with receipts, by CT using funds from the cash donation (appx £32). Future payments will come from bank account when established. (See next point)
  • Bank Account proving difficult to open. Derbyshire Community Bank as previously suggested, was not feasible as their accounts need to be in the name of a single person. Equally, a Nottingham Building Society account would not be in the name of OBM but a nominated individual, therefore making potential donations difficult. It was agreed that an ‘all to sign’ Co-op bank account in the name of OBM will be opened by RM (could take up to 8 weeks).
  • Fund Raising RM indicated that a sum of £250 already promised will be available once the bank account is operational. RM will continue to pursue obtaining funds from Foundation Derbyshire. Richard mentioned that local Belper business, Colledges would like to donate funds. This type of support would be good to acknowledge in the forthcoming newsletter.  RM to make direct contact.

MP has been contacted by Robert Astwick (unsure of spelling of surname) who is a Belper based fundraiser wishing to get involved with OBM. He will attend February meeting. MP to invite him.

  • Future Events agreed – OBM presence at a forthcoming Transition Belper Repair Café event (next one 28th Jan, so poss look at Feb event?), April Afternoon Tea (Derbyshire Tea) event at No 28, inviting Richard Felix to talk, OBM presence at Belper Town Council summer food festival.

MP to confirm Repair Café date & liase with Derbyshire Teas. PM to check with Pippa at No28 re possible Saturday afternoon dates available in April.

RM to source portable folding NOBO display board for use at OBM events

Calendar of events to be discussed at February meeting.

Future AGM to be confirmed at February meeting.

  • Leaflet should be printed by Monday ready for distribution to agreed venues – Library, The Cabin, Oxfam bookshop, Strutts Community Centre etc,
  • Membership at time of preparing these minutes, stands at 413 subscribers including 131 registered as Members

FB group currently 256

  • Next Partners meeting is scheduled for Friday, 3rd February 10am at Strutts centre. Roger is unable to attend as he is out of the country and has asked if the date could be changed but is not anticipating this will be possible. It was agreed that OBM should be represented in order to update the partners with factual progress to date and to take notes of comments and points arising during the meeting. CB will attend on behalf of the group.
  • OBM Newsletter on a quarterly basis will commence March 2023. Initially, CB will collate and provide content to PM who will finalise layout and send via mailchimp. Any ideas or input for the first edition, please forward to CB

We can still put a future general call out to the membership to see if anyone has experience and skills in producing a newsletter and would like to be involved.
